About Marc:

From an illustrious musical pedigree, Atlanta born Songwriter/Producer/ MARC FREEMAN has stepped into the corridors of time to walk into his great uncle JC Higginbotham musical shoe JC Higginbotham was a highly esteemed, well noted Trombone player in (The Father of Jazz) Louis Armstrong’s band, Fletcher Henderson and Chuck Webb to name a few. His career was very eventful, long and colorful. Those musical genes were passed down to his niece, acclaimed Musician/Songwriter Irene Higginbotham (Marc’s Auntie) who penned many songs over her profound and dramatic career including songs such as No Good Man recorded by Billie Holiday and Nina Simone, This Will Make You Laugh recorded by: Nat King Cole Trio, Natalie Cole, Carmen McCray and Marvin Gaye. But her most famous was Billie Holiday’s Good Morning Heartache.  The music gene jumped down another generation beckoning Marc to follow in their footsteps.

Marc’s mother Violet Higginbotham-Freeman was a gifted pianist in her own right. She taught Marc how to listen to the music and become one with it. He became enthralled by the sound of marching bands and the drums beckoned him to play. He later picked up the organ and the keyboard to round out his creative expression. But the drum was the instrument that spoke passion into his heart. He was awarded 2 scholarships from the prestigious Morris Brown College and Clark College.

As fate would have it; Marc became an Intern for David Franklin & Associates whose illustrious roster included R & B legends: Luther Vandross, Roberta Flack & Peabo Bryson to name a few. It was there he wrote his very first song David Franklin’s vintage piano. The songwriting bug bit him and he now has a roster of over 700 songs!  At the same time he became intrigued with sound and mastered the art of MIDI creating sample beats for beat machines. Marc designed sequences and sounds  for long time mentor Peabo Bryson and toured Geffen records artists After 7.

Drums, Sound & Songs opened the door to life on the road for Marc had the honor to play with . Warner Brother’s Artist Jay King & Club Nouveau as a live drummer in 1987. While After 7, The Whispers, Peabo Bryson and the late great Whitney Houston, enlisted his services as a keyboard tech and programmer . But the state of the world grew heavy upon Marc’s heart and he felt a strong need to bring light into the world through his music. He has currently collaborated with Gary “Lil G Jenkins” from the R & B group SILK on the heartfelt song, ”Let Your Light Shine” which is making its way into the hearts and consciousness of music listeners everywhere.  Keep your eyes, ears and heart open and embrace the musical talents of Marc Freeman. He is one to watch!
